When the English Heritage web site opens, in the box type 'Battle of Hastings' and click 'Search'. Films and a lot of information. There is a town named Battle, near Hastings, where there is an inter-active visitor centre. You can go there and watch battle re-enactments and even walk the battle field. From the Castle Index select H, then Hayes Castle. You will find a picture of Hays Castle built 1150. This gives an idea of what the original Nottingham Castle, built in 1067, may have looked like. The wooden castle in Nottingham was replaced by a stone castle in 1170. The present building dates from 1678.
